Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 20th March 2026

Y6 – Friday 20th February 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

We have enjoyed a really successful week in Year 6 – there are a few photos on our website to take a look at, but lots of photos from previous weeks too.  We have almost composed our flashback narratives and once again, some of our pupils have wished to share their favourite sentences with you – check out their amazing writing below.  We have completed our unit on statistics in maths, studying pie charts with percentages, and a lesson on calculating “the mean”.

Our afternoons involved electricity and investigating the brightness of bulbs; we enjoyed a crash course in coding, working through problems in pairs; My Happy Mind allowed us to chat about a range of topics, whilst on Wednesday, we considered the meaning of our Human Rights.  Thursday saw us working on a project about the Hajj and Friday included PE, French and buddies.

 Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • EJ Buddies
  • HN Writing
  • JA PE
  • LM Electricity
  • OJ Being on the field at lunchtimes
  • SL Find the mean in maths
  • FH Working on The Hajj for RE

Here is a selection of our pupils' sentences, which they really wanted to share with you. Enjoy!

LM  I soaked-in the moment, knowing it wouldn't last forever.

FH  We trotted home to the stables, and dad took some wonderful photos of the sunset behind Corry and Jasper, well, once they stopped acting like babies.

HN  It reminds me of mum's pasta that she made every Friday.

IB  By the beach, it was - a seaside, proper diner, not just a fish 'n' chippy.

CC  The only entertainment keeping us alive is Rami's music, floating into the moonlit night.

AB  We all ate ice cream, with merriment, and all sat around the fire.

JB  I could only afford a ring made out of wire, due to my lack of money - she didn't care about the look, she cared about the thought.

IHA The wailing of the irate, incandescent wind makes me quake back to reality.

HH  The barbaric waves humiliate our inadequate, fragile boat.

RW  Then a kid came in and Bini ran behind a dark blue carpet.

GH  The thunderstorm rears its ugly head, staring ahead as if we were nothing to it.

JR  Rain pours down, soaking me up like a sponge.

ML  I jacket my dear Bini from the salty air, her long, wet fur burshes against my jumper.

TB  All of a sudden, Bini lets out a humungous sneeze: we all burst out laughing.

MS  After dinner, we raced out of the door and into the front yard, eating ice cream.

EJ  It was like I was being tortured, the smell made me dribble.

SL  The sound of applause from all the elated fans and my manager, even Hassan had jumped down to give me a hug.

Family discussion questions:

  • In maths, what is ‘the mean’; how is it calculated; can you find the mean height of five children who are 1.35m 24m  1.56m  1.09m  and 1.61m tall?
  • Tell me what you have learned about The Hajj.
  • What did you focus on when learning about human rights? Can you recall any specific rights?

Looking forward:

  • Only one more week before we are two thirds of the way through this school year – hard to believe. We’ll be completing our book, ‘A Story Like the Wind’ with another short text, and moving onto “Shape” in maths.  We’ll continue to work on our foundation subjects, too.
  • Dates for your diary include:
  • Parent Appointments take place next week – your children are also welcome to attend to discuss their time during Year 6.
  • Thursday morning is our hamper draw – tickets can be purchased right up to before school begins on Thursday. You must be “in it to win it”.
  • We break for Easter on Friday – we hope you all have a relaxing two weeks
