Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 24th April 2026
Y6 – Friday 24th April 2026 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Looking back:
Please take a few moments to check our some of our photos from this week – there’s some lovely artwork to see and the children really enjoy looking at the photos each Monday morning. Can you spot your child or their work?
It’s been another fun week in Year 6. We’ve read a little more of “The Good Thieves” and have completed our versions of Vita’s Diary to support the text. Maths has seen us working on shapes and calculating angles, whilst also drawing shapes accurately. Our afternoons have seen us working on coding for IT; looking at how light travels; understanding the “lines” around the world; working on hat designs; revising Roman Numerals (in the sunshine); and enjoying PE. What a great week to be in Year 6.
Our children have chosen some of their favourite sentences to share with you – why not ask about the context behind this week’s writing pieces?
Favourite Sentences from this week's writing task:
EJ Before my eyes was Grandpa's door with the unlucky number - THIRTEEN!!
JB He used to have sapphire gem-blue yes but now they're a dull grey with bloodshot red veins that stood out - what will I do?
SL The 30ft waves continually collided with the ship's bow - launching salt spary into my eyes.
RW He is smaller, slower, greay hair, dark blue ayes and not that energetic now.
FH Thankfully, we reached the flat. But the world refuses to accept. We stood there in front of.....A BROKE ELEVATOR!
TB I walked over to him; he always was handsome, the one the ladies chased, but now his shoulders droop and there are wrinkles inplaces where you would never expect and his eyes... his eyes, once loving, like the sun warming everyone's heart, now as cold as the sea where there was no life, no joy, nothing.
LD The boat ride here was tedious, choppy in fact. I was the only person on deck when everyone was had hidden down below (scardey cats).
HN Not a usual fight. It was an unfair fight.
JR We strolled all the way, passing dark alleyways, it sent shivers down my spine; lights flashed over my eyes as cars filled the streets. Grandpa's imposing apartment stood before us; we entered the building - no lift, no escalator, just a flight of stairs leading to the top.
GH Well, I do agree that the temperatue isn't so grea (I'm blaming the AC) but he lives in this great city with incrediable sights, sounds, places to go, it's all so....perfect!
IB Mum mus have gotten annoyed at all my moaning so she said we'd take the elevator. If only it were working!
LL His scent - it used to be as sweet as syrup and hone, this time it was like cigars and smoked salmon.
IHA Standing at the edge of the bow, alone, while everyone was apparently being "sensible" staying in their cabins. They wer emissing out on the beautiful vista of NYC.
HH He wasn't like I remember. He's old and frail. His fingers seemed knotted and his face seemed drooped.
JA As I looked up....I se him. He's now frail and old but that didn't matter as I still hugged him.
LM Arrival was totally crazy. Firstly everyone was in their cabins being "prudent" yet they were missing out on the gorgeous panorama of NYC.
LM I was soo excited until..... the elevator was blocked off!!! We had to walk up about 1 million flights of stairs which made me throbbin' left foot feel like it was about to fall off!
Thank you – Team Year 6
