Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 5th December 2025
Y6 –Friday 5th December 2025 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Looking back:
We are beginning to gear up for the festivities with singing practice sounding lovely across the juniors this week. In Year 6, we have been looking at explanation texts for English and we’ll be writing these next week about different animals. Metric measures have been a focus for maths this week and we are learning new topics. Various foods have appeared around the classroom in little see-through pots and the children are looking at these each day – with a few interesting looks on their faces as they notice the changes in the food as they begin to rot and decay (the food, not the children!). Sun-dried tomatoes and bread were a focus for science (and history) this week – perhaps your children can explain why! With Mrs Riddell, Year 6 continued to look at the Holy Trinity and on Friday, they braved the weather and enjoyed netball before playing quick game of “Beetle” with their buddies.
Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- JA PE
- TB Buddytime
- GH Drawing the Holy Trinity symbols
- OJ French
- LM Singing Practice
- IB Looking at bread and sun-dried tomatoes
- JA Our maths tests

Family discussion questions:
- How many kilogrammes are equivalent to 1 tonne? What are the definitions of the measures length, mass and capacity and which units of measure would be used for each one?
- Why were Year 6 discussing sun-dried tomatoes and what facts can be remembered about bread?
- How many players make up a netball team and what are their positions called?
Looking forward:
- We will be looking at different adaptations in a range of animals for our English next week and we have our final two assessments – reading and spelling – to complete. In maths, our work on measures will continue and our studies of mould will continue.
- We will be visiting the Christmas shop on Wednesday – please could your child remember to bring their money (in a named envelope/purse/wallet) and possibly a bag to put their goodies in – thank you.
- Friday is Christmas Jumper day and Christmas Lunch – pupils may bring in a cracker to pull!
