Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 20th September 2019

Friday 20thth September 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week the children continued their work on biographies.  They completed their biography of the mountaineer from Mobberley, George Mallory and began to research other mountaineers, who had summited Everest.

In maths we worked on rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, we looked for visual ways of remembering what to do when faced with a rounding mathematical problem.  We also had another very enjoyable Rockstars timestables session.  This led to a lot of ‘Rock slam’ challenges!

Please check out the Knowledge Organiser for mountains on the class page.

Year 4 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Rockstars!
  • Swimming at Sandbach
  • Tag Rugby with Premier Sports
  • Finding out about other Everest mountaineers
  • Learning about the different types of mountains

Family discussion questions:

  • What can you tell me about George Mallory?
  • What is the Mallory mystery?
  • Who else do you know summited Mt. Everest?
  • What is important about them?
  • How do you round a number to the nearest 100?
  • Can you explain ‘trucks and trailers’ from Tag Rugby?
  • Why is it a good game for learning Tag Rugby?
  • Can you tell me any of the types of mountains there are?
  • What is Everest? Is it a fold mountain or a dome mountain?

Looking forward:

This week we will complete our other Everest mountaineers biographies.

We have MOSI on Thursday – so please don’t forget a coat, packed lunch (if you need it) and spending money (if you want to get something from the shop).

In maths we will be looking at bigger numbers – 1,000’s as well as continuing our work on Rock stars timetables and Arithmetic.

In the afternoons, we will be going to Sandbach leisure centre for our swimming lesson. In the afternoons we will also be continuing our topic on mountains, revisiting the types of mountains as well as looking at the climates in mountain ranges.
