Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 16th October 2026

🔙 Looking Back – This Week in Year 4

🏆 Children’s Highlights

What a busy week we have had! The children have been working their socks off preparing their wonderful work for our upcoming exhibition, and we are incredibly proud of all their hard work.

As part of our learning about animals, we have explored animal skulls, creating striking foil skulls as well as producing detailed observational drawings. We have also completed some assessments, which we usually carry out towards the end of each term.

There is lots of excitement building for next week, and we cannot wait to welcome our families into school and give the children the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their fantastic work.

📚 We also finished one of our class reading books, The Giggler Treatment by Roddy Doyle.

⭐ The children particularly enjoyed:

  • Creating batons
  • Tracing teeth and pictures in Science
  • The Bidlea assembly
  • Creating silver skulls
  • Making food-chain collages

💬 Ask at Home

Why not continue the learning at home by asking your child:

  • 🦷 How can you tell if a skull belongs to a carnivore?
  • 🌿 How can you tell if a skull belongs to a herbivore?
  • 🥩🌿 How can you tell if a skull belongs to an omnivore?

🔜 Looking Ahead – Next Week in Year 4

We have another exciting week planned, including:

  • 🔬 Science – Creating our Top Ten Facts
  • 🏔️ Geography – Researching the Himalayas
  • 🌙 R.E. – Learning about Ramadan and fasting
  • 💻 E-Safety – Exploring self-image

And, of course, we are especially looking forward to welcoming families to our Exhibition on Wednesday and Thursday! 🌟

📚 Homework This Week

As we approach the half-term holiday, please note the following:

📝 Written Homework

  • Homework will be given out ready to be marked on the first Friday after we return from the half-term holiday.
  • Spellings: Please complete the spelling sheet and practise the words regularly.
  • Presentation: Please complete all written work neatly using pencil or blue/black pen only. Please do not use felt-tip pens.

📖 Reading

  • Read for at least 15 minutes every day.
  • Please record each reading session in your child's reading record.
  • Reading records will be checked every Monday.
  • Children are encouraged to complete their AR quiz after finishing a book.

🎵 TT Rockstars

Children should aim to:

  • Practise for 10 minutes each day, or
  • Complete two 20-minute sessions during the week.

🔢 Times Tables

Please continue to practise times tables regularly at home. Little and often really does make a difference!

📬 Homework Deadlines

  • Mrs Cowell's homework: Due by Friday.
  • Mrs Riddell's spellings: Learn ready for the test on Wednesday.
  • Reading records: Bring into school every Monday.

The children know where to hand in their completed work.

🌟 A little practice often is one of the best ways to make progress, especially with reading, spellings and times tables!
