Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 18th September

🔙 Looking Back – This Week in Year 4

What another super-busy and hard-working week we have had in Year 4! The children have worked incredibly hard and have enjoyed lots of exciting learning experiences.

📚 English

In English, we have been exploring the story Leaf by Sandra Dieckmann. We have been making predictions about the story and checking whether they were correct.

We have also started to visualise different parts of the story. We have been identifying the use of powerful descriptions and emotive language and considering the impact these have on the reader.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have continued our work on place value, focusing on numbers up to 10,000.

🏆 Children’s Highlights

The children particularly enjoyed:

• 🦉 Our owl assembly and meeting Chocolate the Eagle Owl, who was very big!
• 💻 Exploring Micro:bits with Mr Cowell
• 📖 Exploring the story Dogs Don’t Do Ballet in PSHE as part of No Outsiders
• ⚽ Playing with friends and watching the Year 6 World Cup on the astro-turf
• 🧱 Building models with friends using Lego

💬 Ask at Home

Why not continue the learning at home by asking your child about some of the vocabulary we have been exploring?

• What does the word shunned mean?
• What does the word deserted mean?
• What does the word partition mean?
• What does the word foliage mean?
• What does “out of place” mean?

🔜 Looking Ahead – Next Week in Year 4

We have another exciting week planned, including:

• 🌳 Forest School on Monday – please remember your wellies/boots and a waterproof coat.
• 🦷 Science – human and animal teeth
• 🏔️ Geography – mountain formations
• 🕌 RE – Muslim prayer
• 🎵 Music – The Hall of the Mountain King

📚 Homework This Week

Please remember the following homework activities:

• Pink Paper: Exercise 2, handwriting and GAPS mat
• 📖 Reading: 15 minutes every day. Reading records will be checked on Monday, and children are encouraged to complete their AR quizzes.
• 🎵 TT Rockstars: 10 minutes each day, or two 20-minute sessions during the week
• 📝 Spellings: Test on Wednesday. Short, regular practice is the most effective way to prepare.
• ✏️ Presentation: Please use pencil or blue/black pen only. No felt tips, please.
• 🔢 Times Tables: Ongoing practice

📬 Homework Deadlines

Mrs Cowell’s homework is due by Friday.

Mrs Riddell’s spelling homework is due on Monday.

The children know where to hand their work in.

• 🌳 FOREST SCHOOL – MONDAY AFTERNOON
• 📖 Reading records should be brought into school every Monday and should include a record of daily reading.
• ⭐ Reading Challenge: Children who reach 20 reads earn 10 house points!
