Hi All,
Week 1, Welcome back and I hope you had a lovely half term. Mine consisted of overcoming my fear of ‘Oblivion’ and whizzing around on the Wickerman at Alton Towers! I think my head is still spinning.
We are coming back with an exciting Bang! Mountains!
Linking to our work on peaceful places, we are now embarking on a voyage of discovery about all things mountainous. We will be investigating famous mountain explorers as well as part of this topic. The children learnt about volcanoes last year as part of their topic on Romans, so this should dovetail in wonderfully into this topic. If you know anybody friends or family who have climbed famous mountains and would come in to talk to the class, please get in touch. This would make the whole topic become more real.
Next week we will be beginning a unit on non- chronological reports in English. The children are going to start this process off by looking at wolves (famous mountain dwellers and also a real animal favourite with quite a few of the class), this will then move into writing reports about mountains, once we are further into the topic.
In maths, the children will be working on Fractions, in particular doubling and halving 3 and 4 digit numbers as well as simplifying fractions to their simplest form.
In the afternoons we will begin our topic on mountains, as well as French, computing and of course swimming on Tuesday.
