YR1 Looking Back & Forth 6.3.26

We have had a lovely week in Year 1!

Looking back:

  • We learnt two new phonics sounds: ir (er) and ch (sh)
  • We started our new maths unit: Place Value to 50!
  • We read the end of our English story 'Hermelin!'

Highlights:

  • Dressing up for World Book Day!
  • Seeing Miss Wood as The Little Brown Mouse and Mrs Nicholson as The Gruffalo!
  • We looked at bird houses to inspire us in DT.
  • Learning lots of names of common trees in science.

Looking forward:

  • Next week, we will learn all about wild and garden plants in science.
  • We will learn about significant explorers in history.
  • We will design our own bird houses in DT.
  • We will analyse a model text in English, looking for ideas to use in our own writing.
  • We will continue to look at numbers up to 50 in maths.

Questions to ask at home:

  • Can you name a deciduous tree?
  • Can you name an evergreen tree?
  • Can you count on from 20?
  • What different places might an explorer explore?
  • Can you read these words? first, thirteen,

Thank you for another great week Year 1!

Miss Wood.
