YR1 Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

  • We analysed our model text in English, taking ideas for our own writing.
  • We started our new maths unit and learnt to count in 2s and 10s.
  • We learnt a new sound: tch (ch)

Highlights:

  • We loved going on our mini safari this week! We found lots of interesting invertebrates.
  • We enjoyed learning all about Goostrey and thinking about what we can see where we live.
  • We learnt about how an invertebrates senses might be different to ours.
  • We learnt how to make our drawings look three-dimensional using tone.

Looking forward:

  • We will start going over previous sounds in our phonics lessons to prepare for the phonics screening check.
  • We will learn to count in 10s.
  • We will plan our non-chronological reports in English.
  • We will learn about physical and human features of Goostrey.
  • We will use soft pastels to draw planets.

Questions to ask at home:

  • Can you read these words? witch, match, catch.
  • Is Goostrey a village or a town?
  • What is the difference between a village and a town?
  • What does 'tone' mean?
  • Can you count to 10 in 2s?
  • Can you count in 10s to 100?
