🔙 Looking Back – This Week in Year 4

Wow! Wow! Wow!

What a wonderful start to Year 4! The children have been splendid.

This week, we studied the book The Arrival by Shaun Tan. The children puzzled over and discussed what they thought the story might be about, using just some of the images from the beginning of the book.

We also talked about the skills and attributes that we all bring to school and to the classroom. The children wrote about the skills and talents they bring to Year 4. Kindness, care, creativity, imagination, hard work, problem-solving and fun are just some of the wonderful qualities the class felt they were bringing with them.

I have a feeling this year is going to be AMAZING!

Today, we created Kenning sentences to describe the main character in the story and his exploration of the new, fantastical city.

🏆 Children’s Highlights

  • Making origami birds
  • Starting in a new class
  • Drawing and being creative
  • The Arrival – creating my suitcase
  • The Arrival – writing Kenning sentences

💬 Ask at Home

Why not discuss some of these questions together?

  • How do you make an origami swan?
  • What do you know about the story The Arrival?
  • What do you think the spiky creatures look like?
  • Do you think the family will join the man, or will he return home?
