Yr4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 13th September

🔙 Looking Back – This Week in Year 4

What a busy and productive week we have had in Year 4! The children have worked incredibly hard as we have begun exploring our new English theme, ‘Lost’.

We have been enjoying The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan, which has inspired lots of thoughtful discussion and questioning. We have also started exploring another exciting book featuring a polar bear – but we will keep that one a secret for now and reveal it next week!

In Maths, we have been revisiting place value and numbers up to 1,000, building on the skills the children developed last year. This revision has helped to strengthen their understanding and prepare them for our next step. Next week, we will begin working with numbers in the tens of thousands.

📚 Homework This Week

Please remember the following homework activities:

• Blue Paper: Exercise 3 / Handwriting and sentences sheet
• 📖 Reading: 15 minutes every day. Reading records will be checked on Monday and children are encouraged to complete AR quizzes.
• 🎵 TT Rockstars: 10 minutes each day, or two 20-minute sessions during the week
• 📝 Spellings: Test on Wednesday – short, regular practice is the most effective way to prepare
• ✏️ Presentation: Please use pencil or blue/black pen only. No felt tips, please.
• 🔢 Times Tables: Ongoing practice

📬 Homework deadlines:
Mrs Cowell's homework is due by Friday. Mrs Riddell's spelling homework is due on Monday. The children know where to hand their work in.

🔔 Reminders

• 📖 Reading records should be brought into school every Monday and should include a record of daily reading.
• ⭐ Reading Challenge: Children who reach 20 reads earn 10 house points!
